  Camellia and Matteo, a couple in their fifties, faced an unexpected challenge when they became guardians of their two grandchildren - babies, just 3 months and 13 months old. This came about when their daughter faced intervention from Child Protective Services. Camellia had to stop working to care for the infants, while Matteo supported the family with his landscaping job. Through faith and sacrifice they were managing in their modest apartment with two cribs in the bedroom for the infants and placing a mattress on the living room floor each night for themselves. But their stability was soon disrupted after they came down with COVID and Matteo’s prolonged recovery caused him to miss work for several weeks. Stressing over their unpaid rent and the looming threat of eviction, the couple reached out to SVdP. With Matteo back at work, SVdP matched his paycheck to clear the rental balance and answered their prayers by relieving the threat of losing custody of their grandchildren due to housing instability.
