Foundations of Faith Series | The Papacy

There’s a renewed interest in the papacy. With the passing of Pope Francis, the first South American pontiff, and the election of Pope Leo, the first North American to occupy the Chair of Peter, many are eager to learn more about the history and development of this influential institution.

The Bishop of Rome—the Pope—is widely recognized as one of the most influential moral and religious leaders in the world. Hardly a week goes by without his presence in the media, a testament to the global importance of the papacy, a role that has carried tremendous influence since Emperor Constantine legalized Christianity in the 4th century.
