This movie is the true story of Franz Jagerstatter, an Austrian farmer, devout Catholic and a conscientious objector during WWII. He was sentenced to death and executed in 1943 for his refusal to fight for Nazi Germany. He is venerated as a martyr and has been beatified by the Catholic Church.
