Summer Enrichment
Math
The following sites can give the opportunity to practice concepts you have already learned, get a jump on next year's material, or just find some interesting new parts of math. If you sign up for one, email your math teacher, Mr. Wendling, mwendling@st-theresa.org or Mr. Steinhardt, jsteinhardt@st-theresa.org, so that he can keep up with all you are doing.
Khan Academy: https://www.khanacademy.org/ IXL: http://www.ixl.com/
Students will receive 10 computation reviews to do over the 10 weeks of summer to help keep computation skills sharp. These can be turned in at the beginning of the school year for an optional assignment grade.
Summer Reading
Middle school students are encouraged to read as many books as they wish. These books are self-selected with parental approval.
In an effort to maintain solid reading habits, students should aim to read 20 minutes each day during this summer. Research suggests that students who increase their reading time by 10 minutes each day could increase standardized test scores and overall school performance. Want to increase reading comprehension? Read more. Want to do better in Social Studies? Read more. Want to be in the 90th percentile of your grade? Read 20 minutes each day.
Students will be asked to select two books that they read this summer to discuss during the first week of school. The first book will be discussed in literature circles and will be the topic of an in-class essay. For the second book, students will have the choice of the following projects to complete, which will be turned in during the first week of classes. (The teacher will provide the date.)
Project Options:
1. Write an essay reflecting on the character(s) in your book. Discuss why you liked or did not like these characters and give specific examples from the story. (1-2 pages)
2. Create a digital slideshow (Google slides or PowerPoint) with one slide for each of the following: 4 main points of summary (What happened?), 3 of your favorite quotes from the book (with page numbers), 2 character changes (How do the characters change?), and 1 theme with a description of how you can see that theme in the story. (Theme = A big idea in the story, ex: love conquers evil.)
3. Draw out a map of the setting of your story. This should be in great detail, full color, and be accompanied by a 1/2 page description of the setting explaining how you perceive it. Students are allowed to make a digital image of the setting as long as they do not copy ideas from the internet. This should be printed in color and show
4. Record a video of yourself giving a review of the book. Tell a brief summary of the story - including a character or two, say whether you liked the book or not, and recommend this book to a group of people (ex: people who love adventure stories will love this book).
Students are encouraged to read the books that interest them. Below are links to a variety of standard book lists to help select a book; however, the books do not have to come from these lists. Please be aware that not all books published follow Catholic teachings, and, depending on the maturity of a child, even grade-level appropriate materials may not always be appropriate for each child. We encourage parents to be aware of what their child is reading so thoughtful discussions can take place, and parents can help their child select books that they feel are appropriate for their family. Parental approval is required for your child’s book selection, even from these lists. If the links do not work, then please copy and paste the link.

7th Grade Textbooks and Workbooks
All student books (textbooks, Digital access and consumable workbooks) are ordered by the school. By ordering in bulk for all students, STCS receives a better price which we pass along to students and also eliminates the third party seller.. Most of the textbooks and curriculum adoptions include Digital access for use at-home. If your Tiger needs an at-home set of books, you can purchase books, using the ISBN and Edition numbers, from other resellers (like Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Abe Books and eBay.) If you have questions on locating the correct book or need a replacement book, please contact the teacher or the Business Office for assistance. A list with curriculum titles and ISBN numbers when it is updated and available.
