High School Confirmation

Guidelines for Confirmation Preparation

St. Theresa Catholic Church offers preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation in accordance with Diocese of Austin guidelines.  Eligible candidates are able to receive Confirmation as early as age 14 (or grade 9).  Generally, eligible means (at minimum) receiving 2 years of comprehensive catechesis immediately prior to Confirmation. This can include being enrolled in a Catholic School or participation in a church catechesis program.  The sacrament may be received at the end of the 2nd consecutive year.

Requirements:

• Attend Mass regularly 
• Attend and actively participate in all sessions

Formation

Sessions will be held on Sunday afternoons (1-3:00PM) beginning 9/21/25.

What will happen at the sessions?

• Attendance will be taken
• Candidates will be assigned a table for the year.  Each table will have as its name a Gift of the Holy Spirit
• Each table will have an adult leader
• Everyone will be given small group questions to discuss following each video, led by the adult.  
• Each table will be expected to share with the class the takeaways from each session before our final prayer
• We will end with a brief reflection/prayer and announcements

 

Confirmation Mass

The youth Confirmation Mass date is TBD at 6pm. Rehearsal (mandatory for candidate and sponsor - or parent if sponsor isn't available) is TBD at 6pm.  Parents may request a letter from the Pastor for their teen to be Confirmed at another parish if this date is not suitable for their situation.   The deadline to submit this request is January 31st, 2026.  
 

Who can be a sponsor?

Confirmation sponsors are chosen to witness the Catholic faith to the person being Confirmed. They must be at least 16 years old and a practicing Catholic. This means that the sponsor, if married, has been married by the Church and is practicing the faith in an active, sacramental way and living a life in harmony with the teachings of Christ and his Church. A baptized person who belongs to a non-Catholic ecclesial community may not be a sponsor. The parent of a candidate may not be his or her sponsor.   Please click the link for all Sponsor eligibility & requirements.
 

For Sponsors:

Other than the biggest requirement of being a practicing Catholic in good standing in the Church and attending rehearsal and Confirmation Mass, here are a few ideas of how sponsors can be involved this year:

• Take your confirmand out to lunch or dinner once a month to catch up and chat about the faith.
• Communicate with your confirmand regularly and discuss the sessions and what they are learning. 
• Complete a community service project together. 
• Pray a rosary for the confirmand. 
• Find ways to support the parents in spiritual formation this year.
