The Knights of Columbus is the largest lay organization in the Catholic Church with more than 15,000 councils worldwide and 2 million members. The Order is dedicated to charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism.
Charity
As Knights, we serve our local parish and community while working each day to create a better world through charity. Over the past decade, the Knights of Columbus has raised more than $1.4 billion worldwide and donated more than 664 million volunteer hours to charity. Since its founding in 1882 by the Venerable Servant of God Father Michael McGivney, the first principle of the Order has been charity.
At St. Theresa's, our Knights of Columbus council raises funds for the Church and community through various fundraisers such as the monthly taco breakfasts and holiday pecan and nuts sales. These funds are used to support diocesan seminarians, the St. Theresa youth programs (including altar servers), St. Louise House, Habitat for Humanity, and more.
In 2018 The Knights of Columbus at St. Theresa was awarded the Columbian Award, the order's highest award for community service.
Spiritual Growth
In addition, our council helps nurture the spiritual growth of our parish by sponsoring the Lighthouse Catholic Media kiosk in the narthex. We help strengthen the community of St. Theresa's through volunteer service for the parish picnic, fish fries, ministry fairs, and numerous other parish activities.
Friendship
Members of the Knights of Columbus form friendships with fellow Knights that can last a lifetime, and they make a difference in the parish, community, and beyond for generations to come. In addition, there are many fraternal benefits available to members and their families from scholarships to insurance to service and social activities. A member can choose to participate in the activities that best fit his interests and schedule. Involvement could be several hours a month or only an hour here and there throughout the year.
