Lynne exemplified the "sandwich generation" – adults caring for both children and aging parents. This single mother of three boys (ages 14, 5, and 11 months) had been successfully managing her work-from-home job with a modest income while caring for her dialysis- dependent mother. Lynne reached out to SVdP when her life changed dramatically: her ailing mother passed away and she lost her job.
Her generational challenges continued with the immediate emotional devastation of losing her mother, soon followed by financial hardships. A lapsed life insurance policy forced her to borrow for funeral expenses and an unexpected substantial cemetery interment fee consumed her rent money. Facing eviction, her family's housing stability was threatened.
SVdP prevented this family's eviction and gave Lynne breathing room to secure the following month's rent while she awaited her unemployment benefits. This experience with Lynne demonstrates how thoughtful understanding of our neighbor's life situation and targeted support, made possible by our generous donors, brought God's love and healing to a family caught between generational caregiving demands. "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” [Psalm 147:3]
