Former Deacon of St. Theresa parish, Don Gessler, passed away Saturday, July 30th, in Austin, at the age of 81. He served as a deacon at St. Theresa from 2007-2016. In those nine years Deacon Don calculated that he had celebrated about 30 weddings, performed 150 baptisms, saw 90 converts through RCIA, taught 50 baptism preparation classes,delivered 85 homilies, presided at 25 Funeral Vigils, prepped 20 couples for marriage and assisted the Diocese with many annulment cases. When he retired in June 2016, Archbishop Gregory Aymond wrote “Your diaconate ministry has truly resembled Christ the Servant, and I thank you for all you have done.”
Funeral Mass is Tuesday, August 9, 9:30 a.m. at St. Theresa.
Graveside service follows at Our Lady of the Rosary Cemetery in Georgetown.
Visitation is August 8, 6-8 p.m. (Rosary 7 p.m.) at Cook Walden Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Rd.
