Maggie Mae has turned out to be an integral part of the reading classes I am holding throughout the day/week.
She is serving in a way a therapy dog for some of my students without realizing it. She has become the highlight or "reward" so to speak to see her at the end of the class each day.
With Zoom, I have figured out how to be creative in creating a virtual reading class for my students with some added benefits of the digital world. As my husband telecommutes to his upstairs home and I telecommute to my dining room classroom, we have been learning how to count the blessings in this situation. Though the blessings are still being realized, these are some I've realized so far:
I can spend more quality time with my students since the class time has increased.
I can schedule more frequency of the classes throughout the week.
The technology is a helpful aide to the lessons such as ending a lesson with a related video, and advantages to the virtual whiteboard.
The best part is gaining more personal insight into my student's lives such as meeting their pets and talking to their siblings and parents more often.
