As a victim of domestic violence, Sonia faced devastating circumstances: financial instability, parenting stress, and emotional recovery. Her abuser's incarceration created a sudden drop in income, forcing her onto public assistance. Sonia's father provided crucial additional support for her three children, ages 10, 3, and 1.
Crisis deepened when her grandfather suddenly died. Sonia’s father took time off from work for funeral arrangements, temporarily eliminating the financial lifeline Sonia desperately needed. Despite securing two promising job interviews for night-shift positions that would allow her father to care for the children while she worked, time was running out. With mounting bills and the imminent threat of eviction, Sonia reached out to SVdP.
SVdP responded to Sonia's urgent call and cleared her past-due rent. The generous parishioners of St. Theresa’s church enabled this timely assistance, which prevented eviction, allowed Sonia to direct her limited resources toward her children's needs, and gave her vital time to secure employment before the next rent cycle. Now stabilized, this determined mother is able to concentrate on rebuilding her life and working toward self-sufficiency for her family.
