St. Theresa has a new ministry called Spiritual Adoption. It begins with a list of names of people who are elderly and living in care facilities or they are homebound. Children then "adopt" a person on the list and pray for that person. Praying for others helps children grow in compassion empathy, and selflessness. Praying each day enriches a child's relationship with God and others. Spiritually adoping a person who is elderly increases a child's sense of respect and concern for people who are elderly and vulnerable.
Children are also encouraged to send notes of care and joy to their adopted elderly person, letting them know that the child is praying for them. Here is sample of a prayer to get your child started.
Contact the Department of Evangelization & Catechesis if your child would like to participate, or if you know someone who is elderly that would like to be on the list.
Each elementary class in both the school and church have spiritually adopted one of the people on the list Teachers and catechists will work with the children to pray and show care for their person.
